For the second time, Abu Jinapor runs unopposed in Damongo Constituency.

Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, is standing unopposed as the Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Damongo Constituency for the second time. Mr. Jinapor, the current Member of Parliament, was the sole individual who had filed his nomination at the Constituency on Monday, January 25th, 2023.

The Damongo Constituency is one of the Savannah Region's seven constituencies. Since the commencement of the fourth republic in 1993, the constituency has been held by the National Democratic Congress. Hon. Jinapor ran for the first time in 2020 against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Adam Mutawakilu, who had been in office since 2013. Mr. Jinapor won the elections for the New Patriotic Party for the first time, with over fifty-four percent (54%) of the valid votes cast, becoming the first NPP Member of Parliament for the Constituency since the establishment of the Fourth Republic.

Following his victory, President Akufo-Addo named him Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, a job he has held since.

The NPP started nominations for constituencies with incumbent Members of Parliament on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Several persons have submitted nominations to run against existing Members of Parliament around the country, with certain traditional leaders and other stakeholders calling for the protection of particular MPs.

Mr. Jinapor, on the other hand, did not require traditional leaders and party stalwarts to ask for his protection. Mr. Jinapor was the lone candidate that filed to run as the Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party on Monday, December 25th, 2023. This demonstrates the NPP's trust in Mr. Jinapor to maintain the Damongo Constituency seat for the NPP, despite the seat being historically held by the NDC.

Mr. Jinapor remarked after filing his nomination that he was humbled by the Party's faith in him in the constituency. He stated that the Damongo Constituency is a critical seat in breaking the eight. He promised to work with the party and the constituents to keep the NPP's seat in Parliament and give victory to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Some constituents who talked to the media expressed their appreciation for Hon. Jinapor's efforts. They said that never before in the Constituency's history has a Member of Parliament brought so much development to the area and been so connected to the people. They cited examples such as the construction of the Member of Parliament's Office, which allows constituents unrestricted access to the MP, the construction of astroturf in Damongo, the extension of electricity to various parts of the constituency, and several other infrastructure developments.

They voiced their trust in Mr. Jinapor's ability to retain the seat and continue the Constituency's development agenda. Despite his political affiliation, some locals who identified as NDC members stated they were entirely behind Mr. Jinapor since the improvement he has brought to the Constituency is unparalleled.

The NPP primaries for Members of Parliament are set for Saturday, January 27, 2023. According to the Party's Constitution, if just one individual files to run for office at the conclusion of nominations, that person will be acclaimed on election day. As a result, Mr. Jinapor is the indisputable NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Damongo Constituency, and he will face Adam Mutawakilu, whom he beat in the 2020 General Elections, once again.
